A positive change in the Brazilian patent landscape

The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) recently introduced a new patent filing platform designed to make the filing process more intuitive and structured, as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize its digital services.
COBO IP recently tested the platform, and our overall impression is positive. The module is easy to navigate, with helpful guidance built into each step of the filing process. One of the benefits of this new platform is the possibility of submitting the application in Word format. Looking ahead, we hope this will enable real-time feedback on formatting errors, paragraph and claim numbering, and abstract length, allowing issues to be corrected before the submission is finalized. We would also welcome greater integration with WIPO. We see great potential in this new tool and look forward to the improvements to come as the system continues to evolve.
For applicants and IP professionals, these developments represent an important step toward a more efficient and modern Brazilian patent system. At the same time, digital tools are only part of the equation.
